Most private, contracted tutoring companies charge ~$100-125+ (not including travel) an hour for one-on-one tutoring. My prices are about half:SAT: $60+/hr where price depends on your distance from me.GRE: $65+/hr where price depends on your distance from me.
I also will not travel more than 45 minutes to a location (capping at $90-95/hr)-- meaning that if you are located more than 45 minutes away we must meet at a midpoint like a library.
I will offer you a rate dependent on your distance from me and please-- no hagglers. I offer tutoring services--- I am not a market vendor selling stuff like the contents of my garage._________________________________________________________

You will find that most tutoring sessions run 2-3 hours for one meeting once a week. These hours go by much quicker than you think. Other arrangements are possible but they must be discussed.

Above all, the student must be self-motivated. I can arm a student with the tools he needs to succeed but if he does not practice outside of our lessons, none of what he learned will stick come test day and I cannot be blamed for that as I cannot push and drag a reluctant-- or even apathetic-- student along (plus, the experience is much less enjoyable that way). If the student is diligent, the student will see improvement. So, I hope that any student I take on is self-motivated and as dedicated to learning as I am to tutoring him (or her). It is difficult for me to help a student if the student does not care and is not willing to put in the time and effort it takes to do well.
